Karnala Bird Sanctuary

My opening comments for this trek would be WoW !!!

Location:

The location is on the outskirts of Panvel around 15 KMS from the station and very approachable from Mumbai.
Situated in Panvel Taluka of Raigad District, outside Mumbai, would be an ideal trekking experience.

The sanctuary opens at 7AM and we reached by 6:30 AM by car.
Parking is available but I felt it expensive...Rs. 100/- for 4 wheeler.

Entry fee is Rs. 30/- per adult and Rs. 100/- per camera.

Time to Visit:

Ideally you can go anytime you want but preferred are winters and post monsoon. M
onsoons could be very slippery and not suitable for family adventure.
Whatever time you decide, it has to be early morning. The gates open at 7 am and that's for us to have greater chances of spotting birds and get on a head start with the trek, before the sun hits hard. Birds are early risers so try to synchronize with them.

Trekking:

If you are trekking, then you should start immediately trekking towards the fort which is at the very top of the mountain in the sanctuary. We had packed 2 bottles of water and some snacks like biscuits.
As you start walking you may start hearing the birds whistle and flying around.

If you are lucky you would be able to see some beautiful birds of Maharshatra.

However you would always spot lots of Large Spiders on the way, don't forget to get closer and check the beauty.

Once you are at the top of the mountain you would be able to see the ruins of the fort and the view of the Santuary around. The view is majestic.

This trek may take 2-3 hours to reach and it is medium trek.

Food and Drinks:

If you are hungry you will not find anything on the mountain, however there is a food joint at the base of the trek which may get mixed reaction form others. I personally enjoyed it as it was typical village Maharashtrian food.
The place was hygienic and the lady was very cooperative.
We ordered lots of Lemon Juice, Pakoda & Puri Bhaji. Overall it was a good snack which we enjoyed it.
